What Services Does R10.net Use?

A server pool created with dedicated servers specially ordered for R10.net with next-generation processors is positioned in accordance with high availability rules, all at N+1 redundancy. Systems whose Installation and Planning, Management and Monitoring services are completely managed, installed, and monitored by the Netinternet team are protected by our Web Application Firewall service. Ilkbyte.com serves R10.net for micro services, metric collection, and logging applications. The total number of active servers is 19.

What Technologies Does R10.net Use?

The technologies used are shared in a restricted manner for security reasons. R10.net webmaster platform using PHP and MySQL infrastructure uses Litespeed as the web server. While the load balance feature in our WAF service is used for scaling web servers, Galera Cluster is used for MySQL cluster, and Redis and Memcache running in active, passive mode are used as auxiliary acceleration tools. While the servers on the platform can be multiplied quickly according to demand with Ansible Playbooks, Graylog is used as a central logging system, and Grafana is used with InfluxDB and Prometheus for collecting server metrics. While Sentry is used to collect software errors, MinIO cluster is positioned in the CDN infrastructure. All servers are backed up with 3 copies by taking system images to separate storage devices. Additionally, the entire system has been transferred to the Git version control system and Gitlab was preferred for this as well.

How Was the R10.net Migration Process Carried Out?

After examining the platform infrastructure and details and deciding on the technologies to be used, we subjected the platform to long-term tests with various stress tests and visitor simulation systems before migration. The auxiliary tool we used in this regard was locust.io, and we completed the tests with virtual visitors with bots programmed by the Netinternet team to simulate the activities of platform users on a locust cluster consisting of dozens of servers. As a result of these test studies, the initially decided technologies were changed exactly 3 times. The work was completed with detailed test studies coordinated with the Netinternet team and R10.net software developers over a full 2.5 months. After all this work, the date of platform migration was determined, the database was made write-protected, and after an average of one hour, the data was migrated and opened for use after the final tests.

Cyber Attacks and System Management Processes

Unfortunately, the R10.net webmaster platform only had 2 days without cyber attacks from the day it moved to Netinternet infrastructure until this article was written. R10, which had been subject to these cyber attacks in the past and could not find a solution to the problems experienced at the point of attacks, had decided to move its infrastructure services to Netinternet. R10.Net, which has been subjected to various types of http-get attacks of approximately 30 to 50 million, has been protected against cyber attacks by Netinternet without any problems until now. Since technological developments also change the nature of cyber defense and cyber attacks, we continue to successfully provide protection against attacks produced as of today.

The Web Application Firewall service used to protect R10.net webmaster platform from cyber attacks is a product completely developed by Netinternet. The strategic advantage of having a WAF product developed entirely within our company on cyber attacks is that we can update defense mechanisms against new types of cyber attacks with instant updates.

One of our primary goals is to institutionalize the knowledge and knowledge resources we have in system management, and to ensure their confidentiality, integrity, and usability. Being aware that human-dependent systems always cause problems, the technologies used on servers in accordance with the 27001:2013 Information Security Management Systems management approach have been documented in standards specific to Netinternet and published in the in-house document management system in a simplicity that allows each technical personnel to quickly intervene in a problem without causing confusion during a problem. This free tool is quite famous because it provides information about your loading time issues. PageSpeed Insights analyzes the most important factors from bad CSS to images, browser caching, and plugins that can harm your loading time stability for both desktop and mobile websites.

PageSpeed Insights presents a distribution of metrics so that developers can understand the range of FCP, FID, LCP, and CLS values for that page or resource. This distribution is also divided into three categories. These categories are Good, Needs Improvement, and Poor, shown with green, orange, and red bars. KeyCDN website speed test is a full page speed test that can be conducted from 10 different locations worldwide. Also, KeyCDN is a free speed test tool. It allows the performance of any HTML page to be tested and measured.

Report No

This is the report number to be submitted to the technical support team to get detailed information about the attack. Upon your request, all details related to the relevant attack can be obtained in PDF format.

IP Address

Shows the IP address where the attack was launched. Only IP addresses selected on the IP management page are displayed. The IP range is additionally specified as subnet in the table header.

Date

Shows the date DDoS filtering started in UTC. You need to add +3 hours for Turkey time.

Duration

Shows the duration of DDoS filtering in seconds. Allows you to see how long the attack lasted.

Size

Allows you to see the size of the attack in mbps and packet count. BPS shows the size of the attack, PPS shows the packet count of the attack.

Type

Shows the type of attack. There can be more than one type.

Zone

You can see which device you are working on. Netinternet shows the best standard rules, NetinternetGame indicates that optimized rules are applied for game servers, NetinternetVoice indicates that optimized rules are applied for voice servers. Status

Shows whether the attack is currently ongoing. If it says completed, it means the attack is no longer continuing.

As we do every year, we would like to inform you, our valued customers, about what we did in 2018, which we will leave behind in a few days, what changes occurred in our company and infrastructure, and about our investments and new services. We are starting to share the 2018 Z report with the changes in our infrastructure;

We increased our UPS system, which was positioned as one active and two standby in parallel, from three to four, with two active and two independent standby, taking into account our increased capacity. Since the four UPS systems currently work in parallel with each other, each operating at 23.45% load capacity, we are at a level that can provide uninterrupted power even in the extraordinary case of three of them going out of service at once.

We also strengthened our air conditioning system infrastructure, which was positioned as one active and two standby, taking into account our growth rate. In the past spring months, a new generation Emerson Liebert Hiross device with a three-motor dual (3x2) condenser that operates redundantly within itself like our other devices was integrated and the necessary paralleling operation was performed to enable it to work online with other air conditioning systems and activated. Our cooling capacity reached 430KW power (~1.5 Million BTU).

Regarding physical areas, a new corridor was added to our closed corridor smart cabinet systems positioned at intervals appropriate to data center business standards to ensure safe cooling. Considering customer needs, the highest quality products from industry-leading brands such as KAEL, ABB, Schneider Electric were used in our cabinets, all 47U in size, with redundant PDU and precision energy meter.

Towards the end of 2018, while increasing our internet access capacity by 50% to have a larger, wider network bandwidth capacity, we also made the same leap at 100% in DoS-DDoS filtering systems. We started receiving services from domestic operators in addition to foreign operators for DDoS filtering. With these service purchases, we included Netinternet in 2 Tbps (2000 Gbps) filtering capacity for DDoS filtering abroad and 360 Gbps filtering capacity domestically.

The cost of network equipment, servers and all other investments purchased during the year has been calculated at over 1.8 Million Turkish Lira. Of course, we will not only share the work we did by spending money in 2018. We continue to announce new services, completed projects and changes in services…

The www.ilkbyte.com project, which was started in 2017 and completely developed by our company, was completed and went into service. Inspired by overseas examples and developed 100% by Netinternet in Turkey, Ilkbyte offers hourly-billed, easily installable and rescalable SSD-based servers. Ilkbyte, our domestic and national software, is a complete virtualization automation system using KVM virtualization technology.

Netinternet was renewed with version 2.0. With the new version, our website gained new capabilities in many areas with the changed software infrastructure. The domain management system was completely changed. It was reorganized to be much faster and according to user requests, service-specific pages related to service management were added. As soon as our integration with the new payment institution we started working with was completed, many features such as credit card storage, one-touch payment, automatic renewal of selected products with credit card were gained. Again, our network automation system, which has been completely developed by our company for approximately 10 years, changed the technologies it uses this year and achieved a performance of more than 10 times. Our system, which was completely rewritten with new programming languages starting to be used within our company, continues to work fully integrated with all operators and operator services we work with using new technologies. Finally, our new network automation system has been made manageable by our customers for their own networks via the internal API.

A new service exclusively for those who want to focus only on their work, Managed Servers, was also offered to our customers this year. Our existing customers and newly joining customers showed tremendous interest in our service. We will continue to develop the scope and features of our Managed Servers service, which is 100% managed and monitored in real time by our technical team, with the feedback of our existing customers in the coming year.

How Does Anti-DDoS Firewall Work?

The equipment and internet bandwidth used in providing this service are provided bidirectionally by Turk Telekom and another contracted foreign operator. While our foreign operator is located at one of the world’s largest internet traffic exchange centers, our domestic operator is by far one of the largest operators in Turkey.

Anti-DDoS works in sensor mode by default, and automatically switches to filtering mode when an attack is launched towards your IP address. Customers who request it can have their IP addresses always work in filtering mode.

The firewall also provides protection at Layer7, this feature is activated upon user request and provides protection against sql injection and software backdoor attacks. Despite data traffic being encrypted with SSL, Layer7 protection can also be operated in Layer7SSL mode. For this, SSL certificate information to be used for the IP address is requested from our users.

Netinternet provides services through more than one operator. If there is a delay in your access times due to receiving firewall service only through the operator located abroad, you can also request that your IP addresses be announced simultaneously in a way that protects attacks that can come domestically to all operators we peer with.

The service purchased for the Anti-DDoS service cannot be transferred to different IP blocks according to our company policy. Firewall management can be offered to the management of customers who request it. Users with a firewall service can also request special ACL rules and networks specially configured against attacks by Netinternet, beyond the filtering capabilities provided by the foreign operator. These services are not defined/provided for users who do not use Anti-DDoS firewall service.
